At WestPenn Doodles we recognize the importance of a well raised puppy.

We are committed to providing the best start to our puppies. We have educated ourselves on curriculum for puppy raising and worked to develop a routine and structure for raising well rounded and health puppies. 

Puppy Raising ​

All puppies at WestPenn Doodles are raised inside our home. Puppies are whelped in our bedroom and spend the first 2 weeks of life next to our bed, this allows us to be close by mom and puppies. I am present for all births and assist moms as needed during whelping. The first 2 weeks are the most delicate, we monitor puppy weights 2 times per day ensuring all babies are gaining, supplementing as needed.

Once puppies reach 2 weeks and are becoming more mobile, their eyes and ears have opened we transition to a larger whelping box and into our family room. During this stage puppies hear the sounds of every day life, mom has more freedom to come and go from her babies. We begin curriculum exposure activities to new objects, textures, and sounds. As puppies go we continue to transition their space, giving them more room in the play area, working on potty training, crate exposure and continuing handling and socialization exercises.
