Bernedoodles

Bernese Mountain Dog X Poodle

What is a Bernedoodle?

A Bernedoodle (can all be referred to as a Bernadoodle) is a combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. In our program we focus mainly on multigeneration Bernedoodles, meaning both parents being Bernedoodles. Bernedoodles are known to be a friendly, social and easy going breed. The Bernedoodle can come in many sizes dependent on parents.

What is their temperament?

Bernedoodles are known for being affectionate, playful, and loyal. Bernedoodles are gentle and do well with children and other pets. They enjoy snuggling and spending time with their family. Bernedoodles are the best of both worlds—they love to be active outdoors (think hiking, swimming, running, etc.), but they also love being your snuggle buddy. Personal space does not exist for them and they will forever think they are a lapdog. Their loving nature makes Bernedoodles ideal therapy dogs, which aligns nicely with their strong desire for attention.

What is their trainability?

Bernedoodles are intelligent and respond well to positive reinforcement training. Training should start early and be consistent. Bernedoodles can be headstrong/stubborn, so early training and socialization is important. Thirty to forty-five minutes of exercise per day is usually sufficient.

What is their lifespan?

Bernedoodles can live anywhere from 10-15 years. Smaller Bernedoodles tend to live longer than standards. Our parents are screened for any genetic health conditions that could be passed to puppies and shorten lifespan. There are other factors that can impact lifespan as well such as their environment, activity level, and diet.

What is their coat like?

Our Bernedoodles can have a unfurnished, straight, wavy, or curly coat depending on the generation and parents used. Most Bernedoodles tend to shed very little if any at all. Our unfurnished Bernedoodles may shed but will be less shedding than a traditional Bernese Mountain Dog.

The Bernedoodle coat will require frequent brushing like any other doodle. If you prefer a longer coat being more diligent about brushing and frequent grooming is needed to ensure the dog is not matted. A shorter trimmed coat can be easier to maintain. when grown out and is fairly easy to maintain when trimmed. A Bernedoodle's coat is different than a double coated dog and can be shaved without damaging the hair. We recommend daily brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to avoid tangles and matting.

What color are they?

Bernedoodles can come in a wide variety of colors. When looking at our upcoming pairings we list color possibilities based on genetics from parents. Possible colors include traditional tri color (black, white, tan), phantom(black, tan), merle tricolor, phantom merle, parti (2 colors w/ 50% of the coat being white), sable, chocolate tricolor, chocolate merle.

What size are they?

Micro Mini (also known as petite or tiny) Bernedoodles will be under 25lbs

Mini Bernedoodles will range from 26-35lbs

Medium Bernedoodles will range from 36-50lbs

Standard Bernedoodles will be 51lbs or larger
