AUSTRALIAN MOUNTAIN DOODLES

Australian Shepherd X Bernese Mountain Dog X Poodle

What is an Australian Mountain Doodle?

An Aussie Mountain Doodle also called the "Aussie Mountain Doodle"  or AMD for short is a cross between an Australian Sheperd, Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. Our goal with breeding the Australian Mountain Doodle is to blend the loving, laidback easy going nature of the Bernese with the intelligence and trainability of the Australian Shepherd and the poodle coat properties, intelligence and health. The ultimate goal of brining down the Aussiedoodle energy and increasing the lifespan of the Bernedoodle.

The Australian Mountain Doodle is the main focus of our program. We strive to create the perfect blend of these characteristics and health with our intentional pairings of parents. This mix can be the perfect family dog as they are loyal, loving, playful but have a medium energy level and have an "off switch". They will often match energy levels of families and enjoy the outdoors equally as much as lounging on the couch.

What is their temperament?

The Australian Mountain Doodle is a social, friendly, family oriented breed with all the amazing qualities we love from the Bernese, Australian Shepherd, and Poodle! They make great companion dogs, wonderful family dogs and do well with children of all ages. The Australian Mountain Doodle is a well rounded mix of the breed. They are great for individuals who are looking for a companion who is up for an adventure and playtime and also do well in a more laid back environment. Within our litters we can see some variations on traits from the breed mix and selection of our puppies is always completed after temperament testing, allowing families to have insight on the personality of the puppy they are selecting.

What is their trainability?

Australian Mountain Doodles are highly trainable dogs that respond well to positive reinforcement. We find the Australian Mountain Doodle to be motivated and interested in training. We find them to be less stubborn than the Bernedoodle but require less of a job than an Aussiedoodle. They are eager to please and intelligent. Several of our past Australian Mountain Doodles have been trained in therapy and service work.

What is their lifespan?

The Australian Mountain Doodle can live anywhere from 12-18 years. Our parents are screened for any genetic health conditions that could be passed to puppies and shorten lifespan. There are other factors that can impact lifespan as well such as their environment, activity level, and diet.

What is their coat like?

Australian Mountain Doodles can have a unfurnished, straight, wavy, or curly coat depending on the generation and parents used. Most Australian Mountain Doodles tend to shed very little if any at all. Our unfurnished Australian Mountain Doodles may shed but will be less shedding than a traditional Bernese or Australian shepherd.

The Australian Mountain Doodle coat will require frequent brushing like any other doodle. If you prefer a longer coat being more diligent about brushing and frequent grooming is needed to ensure the dog is not matted. A shorter trimmed coat can be easier to maintain. when grown out and is fairly easy to maintain when trimmed. An Australian Mountain Doodle's coat is different than a double coated dog and can be shaved without damaging the hair. We recommend daily brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to avoid tangles and matting.

What color are they?

Aussie Mountain Doodles can come in a wide variety of colors. When looking at our upcoming pairings we list color possibilities based on genetics from parents. Possible colors include traditional tri color (black, white, tan), phantom(black, tan), merle tricolor, phantom merle, parti (2 colors w/ 50% of the coat being white), sable, chocolate tricolor, chocolate merle.
