Australian Shepherd x Poodle
What is an Aussiedoodle?
An Aussiedoodle (also known as an Aussiepoo) is a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle.
They’re known for their intelligent, lovable and active personalities. We focus on multigeneration Aussiedoodles in medium and mini sizes.
What is their temperament?
The Aussiedoodle is intelligent, outgoing, sweet, eager to please, and devoted to its family, making it a great pet for a household with kids and other animals. While this is a higher-energy dog, it does love to spend time with the family, even if that means lounging around the house. Aussies are herding dogs, so there’s a chance an Aussiedoodle will follow its instincts, it’s not unusual for them to bump and nip as a means of herding. If you work with on training, you can stop this behavior with commands. Luckily, they’re very smart, very trainable, and, like their parent breeds, very intelligent. So, you can work on this at a young age, and it’ll be able to learn quickly. You will also want to incorporate a job of sorts into the dog’s daily activities, as most Aussiedoodles love having a task to do.. The Aussiedoodle is an active dog that requires both exercise and mental stimulation. We focus our lines on creating a well rounded Aussiedoodle who has the eagerness to please and train but are on the lower energy side, snuggly and loving to their famiies.
What is their trainability?
Australian Shepherds and Poodles are extremely smart breeds with a desire to work, so it makes sense that Aussiedoodles are one of the most intelligent of the doodle breeds. They are eager to please which means they have the desire to learn and willingness to work. Training should start at a young age, they are motivated learners. We begin training and socialization as puppies, families should begin training as soon as puppies join their family. They are not only exceptionally easy to train but they LOVE to learn and will start picking up on basic commands very quickly. Some would even say they can learn to read your mind, being emotionally intelligent dogs as well.
What is their lifespan?
A typical lifespan for an AussieDoodle is 12-15 years. Our parents are screened for any genetic health conditions that could be passed to puppies and shorten lifespan. There are other factors that can impact lifespan as well such as their environment, activity level, and diet.
What is their coat like?
Aussiedoodles can have a unfurnished, straight, wavy, or curly coat depending on the generation and parents used. Most Aussiedoodles tend to shed very little if any at all. Our unfurnished Aussiedoodles may shed but will be less shedding than a traditional Bernese or Australian shepherd.
The Aussiedoodle coat will require frequent brushing like any other doodle. If you prefer a longer coat being more diligent about brushing and frequent grooming is needed to ensure the dog is not matted. A shorter trimmed coat can be easier to maintain. when grown out and is fairly easy to maintain when trimmed. An Aussiedoodle's coat is different than a double coated dog and can be shaved without damaging the hair. We recommend daily brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to avoid tangles and matting.
What color are they?
Aussiedoodles can come in a wide variety of colors. When looking at our upcoming pairings we list color possibilities based on genetics from parents. Possible colors include traditional tri color (black, white, tan), phantom(black, tan), merle tricolor, phantom merle, parti (2 colors w/ 50% of the coat being white), sable, chocolate tricolor, chocolate merle.
